Droppings
Rat droppings are 12–18 mm and spindle-shaped; mouse droppings are 3–6 mm like rice grains. Fresh droppings are dark and soft.
Gnaw marks

Dark greasy smears along skirting and pipe runs where oily fur repeatedly contacts the surface.

Beaten tracks through dust or vegetation, and 5–8 cm burrow entrances near compound walls and drains.

Shredded paper, cloth and insulation gathered behind appliances, in storerooms and inside lofts.
