How to Get Rid of Cockroaches

Effective cockroach control is a sequence, not a single spray. Skipping any step is why infestations return.

Effective cockroach control is a sequence, not a single spray. Skipping any step is why infestations return.

1

Remove the water source

Fix dripping taps, dry the sink at night, and stop leaving wet cloths out. This alone slows breeding measurably.

2

Deep clean grease

Degrease behind the hob, under the fridge and inside cabinet corners. Grease film is a primary food supply.

3

Seal harborage

Fill cracks around pipework, skirting and cabinet joints with sealant. Fewer hiding places means baits get used.

4

Apply gel bait correctly

Small pea-sized dots in 20–30 locations near harborage beat one large blob. Never spray insecticide over bait — it repels roaches from it.

5

Break the breeding cycle

Insect growth regulators stop nymphs maturing. Without them, surviving eggs restart the infestation in 4–6 weeks.

6

Treat drains and shared lines

Floor traps and common soil pipes need attention, especially in older buildings.

Home remedies like boric acid, bay leaves and vinegar reduce visible activity but do not reach the nesting population inside walls and appliance voids. If sightings continue past two weeks of consistent effort, professional gel baiting plus growth regulator application is the reliable route.
