German cockroach (Blattella germanica)
10–15 mm, light brown with two dark stripes behind the head. The dominant indoor kitchen pest, fastest breeder, and the species behind most repeat infestations.
American cockroach (Periplaneta americana)
35–40 mm, reddish-brown, capable of flight. Lives in drains, manholes and basements; enters flats through floor traps, especially during monsoon.
Brown-banded cockroach (Supella longipalpa)
10–14 mm with pale bands across the wings. Prefers warm, dry areas — electronics, wardrobes and behind picture frames rather than kitchens.
Oriental cockroach (Blatta orientalis)
20–25 mm, dark and glossy. Found in damp basements, garbage areas and service ducts of larger buildings.
German cockroaches need bait-led treatment; American cockroaches need drain and perimeter work. A misidentified species is a wasted treatment.
