Signs of Termites
Termites reveal themselves through construction artefacts rather than sightings — you will see their engineering long before you see the insect.

Mud tubes
Pencil-width earthen tunnels running up walls, along skirting or across foundations. The single most reliable indicator.
Hollow-sounding timber
Tap along skirting, door frames and wardrobe backs; a papery hollow sound means the interior is gone.
Blistered paint
Rippled or bubbling wall paint where termites have worked behind the plaster surface.
Discarded wings
Piles of identical translucent wings on window sills after a swarm, typically following the first heavy rains.
Frass and mud in joints
Soil-like packing pushed into furniture joints, hinge recesses and wall cracks.
Sticking doors and windows
Frames distort as the wood is consumed and moisture accumulates.
Mud tubes plus hollow timber together indicate an active colony, not a historic one — treatment should not be delayed.
