How to Get Rid of Ants

Ant control is a baiting exercise supported by sanitation. Patience matters more than force.

Ant control is a baiting exercise supported by sanitation. Patience matters more than force.

1

Do not spray the trail

Leave the trail intact so foragers can carry bait home. Wiping it clears the pheromone but does not solve the source.

2

Remove competing food

Wipe spills, seal sugar and honey, cover pet bowls and clear bin residue so bait is the most attractive option available.

3

Place gel bait at the entry point

Small placements next to the crack the trail emerges from, not on open counter surfaces.

4

Allow feeding time

Heavy ant activity around bait in the first 48 hours is expected and desirable — that is transfer taking place.

5

Seal after control

Once activity stops, seal the crack, window gap or skirting joint that served as the entry.

6

Treat balcony planters

Check pot soil and drainage trays; repot or drench where a nest is established.

If trails persist beyond two to three weeks of consistent baiting, the species may need a different bait matrix — protein-based rather than sugar-based — which is where a professional survey helps.
