1

Pharaoh ant (Monomorium pharaonis)

Tiny yellow-brown ant, multi-queen, notorious for budding when sprayed. A major problem in hospitals and food premises.

2

Ghost ant (Tapinoma melanocephalum)

Dark head with a pale translucent abdomen; nests in wall voids and potted plants, strongly attracted to sweets.

3

Carpenter ant (Camponotus species)

Large black ants that excavate galleries in damp or decaying timber rather than eating it. Structural damage is possible over time.

4

Crazy ant (Paratrechina longicornis)

Fast, erratic movement and long antennae. Nests outdoors and forages widely indoors, often through electrical fittings.

Sugar-feeding species take sweet gel readily; protein-feeding species ignore it. When a bait is refused, the species — not the product — is usually the issue.
